Buc Sports Update: April 18

Check out pictures, statistics, and more across all Buc sports from a busy day on the courts, the courses, and the fields.

Baseball (4-3)

The Bucs improved to above the .500 mark with a big 12-2 win against Shore Monday afternoon.

The Bucs have a packed week ahead, with three games in four days against SJV (Wednesday), Matawan (Friday), and Middletown North on Saturday in the first round of the Monmouth County Tournament.

Girls’ Lacrosse (5-2)

Despite a strong, five-goal second half comeback, the Lady Bucs fell in a 13-10 loss to Manasquan. The Bucs stepped up their game on both sides of the ball in the second half to hold the Manasquan offense to just one goal after allowing the Warriors to score 12 in the first half. This year’s result is an improvement of last year’s Manasquan-RBR opening day matchup, in which the Warriors won 18-6. The two teams will face off again on May 8.

The Bucs look ahead to perhaps their biggest game yet: Thursday’s matchup against crosstown rival Red Bank Catholic. The race for control of the B North division is shaping up to be one of the Shore’s tightest and best, with RBC (7-2, 6-0) in first, Manasquan (5-3, 5-1) in second, and the Bucs (5-2, 4-2) in a close third.

Softball (3-3)

The Lady Bucs took home a big 7-5 Senior Day win that came down to the wire on Monday. The game was tied 5-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when the Bucs went on a two-run rally with an RBI from sophomore outfielder Kiliko Lowe off of two passed balls and an RBI sacrifice fly from senior third baseman Lauren Bevacqua to seal the win.
