1. Alien: Covenant – In theaters May 19th
Yes, I know what you’re probably thinking, “Great, another Alien sequel.” However, what some people don’t consider about the fact that there is another installment to this franchise is the reason behind there being so many. While there are six movies in the series, the reason there are so many is because they have become cult classics and the public is eagerly anticipating the release of Covenant.
2. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – In theaters May 26th
Nobody saw the fifth movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean series coming. In fact, it was a huge shock when we found out Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) was going to once again play an integral part in the plot of these films. As a fan favorite, Disney definitely knows what it’s doing in continuing down this path.
3. Cars 3– Coming to theaters June 16th
Alright, let’s be honest here. We’d all be lying if we said we haven’t secretly been waiting for this to come out since last summer when a teaser trailer was released that made us all think Lightning McQueen died. Newsflash: Lightning is still alive. And at this point, having waited nearly six years, there is very little PIXAR could do to disappoint its excited audience.
4. Baby Driver– Coming to theaters June 28th
This cutting edge, fast-paced (no pun intended) film has already captured the interest of a vast array of people with its retro-style graphics and killer (okay, pun intended there) music. Be on the lookout for its notable actors Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Lily James, and Jamie Foxx as this summer flick hit theaters.
5.) Dunkirk– Coming to theaters July 21st
Dunkirk is a WWII film that centers around the Dunkirk evacuation at the beginning of the war. Frankly, Christopher Nolan has outdone himself once again. Having written and directed this movie as well as The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Interstellar, and others not quite as renowned, I think it’s safe to say that Nolan is a cinematic genius.
6. It– Coming to theaters September 8th
First of all, wow. If your hands weren’t shaking and you weren’t experiencing slight nausea while watching the trailer to this adaptation of Stephen King’s It, then you’re lying to the world and to yourself, because the brief glimpses we’ve gotten of this film are absolutely chilling. This is probably the most highly anticipated film since PIXAR announced it was finally making an Incredibles 2. Nowadays it’s hard to find any horror movies that will make you both jump and slightly wet yourself, but I think we can all agree that this will definitely be one of those movies that you end up watching over and over again.
Most likely, all the movies on this list will be that way as well. I’m sure we’re all excited to see the aforementioned films as well as several that are not even included.
